On Monday 15th September we had our first HSA meeting of the new session - and our 'Meet the Teacher' evening. I talked with parents about the expectations of their children in Year 4 and gave some information on the kinds of things we will be doing in the course of this school year. A new homework diary has been introduced to the class in which I will ensure that the childen's homework assignments are written so that parents know exactly what homework a child has - and when it has to be completed by. There will be reading each evening; rsearch for IB themes and Math or Language to reinforce work being covered in class. I ask that parents sign the book at the end of the week to let me know that they have seen the homework and acknowledge that it has been done. this diary serves as a vital link between home and school and parents are encouraged to not only sign, but leave comments, ask questions etc.
Our IB themes for this year are called 'Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies'; 'On the Move'; 'Lights! Camera! Action!'; 'To Infinity and Beyond'; 'We the People'; and 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle'. We will be starting with 'To Infinity and Beyond' which is a study of Space and the Planets. Look out for homework assignments which will require your support in carrying out research into this fascinating subject.
I am looking forward to a hard-working, interesting and purposeful year with your children.
